Of course, we’ve been calling it out for years: don’t forget the local media. The best read media (with probably one of your most important audiences) are the local newspapers. Last summer research was done again on the reach of local newspapers and what did it show? They are read by 11.8 million Dutch people.
The research was conducted among 17,000 Dutch people aged 13 and older. Research agency NOM/GfK questioned this target group about their media use and the local newspaper was also mentioned. The door-to-door newspapers in the Netherlands reach 47.7% of teenagers and adults. The newspapers of publisher BDUmedia, where I got this news from, did even better. A reach of 62.2% on average, with outliers to over 75%.
Half of the Dutch population believes it interesting to be informed about local news. Your local newspaper and all its colleagues are a good source of information. Some 80% of adults read a local newspaper from time to time. 5.3 million people read this medium every week and more than half read three-quarter sections or more.
With a good story, you can get your business in a local newspaper for free. That’s what we’re all about: organizing publicity that can’t be bought. Would you like to talk with each other about your publicity needs and with what story you can get your company in the media?
